The Inter-American Division includes Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands, and Venezuela.  

Resources for Cuba, Guatemala and Honduras are listed mainly as this is where the Mission Offering will be going, but as Mexico is the most well-known country in this region, it is also included.

Population, area, currency, language, religion, number of telephones, televisions....... This is a great tool to give children a little bit more of the gap between their own country and the countries in this division.

  • International Friends - aimed mainly at pre-adolescent girls this contains a wealth of quick information about the life of a girl in these countries as well as a paper doll to cut out.  Be aware that it does take a long time to download but well worth it.
  • Mexico for Kids - heaps of information on the culture, history, food, games and other aspects of Mexican culture.
  • National Geographic Discovering Mexico - an on-line presentation on Mexico.
  • ThinkQuest The Cuban Experience - Home - information about Cuba prepared by school children (but very extensive!).

Language

  • Foreign Languages for Travellers - click on Spanish and follow instructions to retrieve a list basic words, phrases and numbers to teach students.  If you are unsure as to how to say a word you can even listen to the pronunciation!
  • Sounds of Animals in Spanish!  Compare with how we say animal sounds.  To know the animal, click on the link which will take you to a picture.  Alternatively, as you hold your mouse over link, look in bottom left corner - description of link will tell you the animal (ie. ~/mouse.gif)
  • Say Thank You in many languages including Spanish.
